As I said in another post, we have been fortunately busy at work, so it is getting in the way of ''fun.'' We are planning on making up for it with April and May trips to bird rookeries in Florida and south Georgia, and then a week in Yellowstone ... I am sooooo ready!
Here are a few recent shots from our yard.

Dan,
I am seeing the same prices as you are, about $29.00 for 50#s of good BOSS. I gave up on feeding the mixed seed and my House Sparrow problem went away! I feed BOSS and thistle, and always have a couple of home made suet blocks out. Of course the Bluebirds get the live mealworms.

Very cool Gil. Looks like you had a great trip. I am always fascinated by the ''foreign birds.''

More nice images Gil. I agree with you on the Cardinals. I notice that they arrive very early at our feeders and then usually not again until late (last) light in the day.

Nice images Ollie. I am looking forward to seeing more from you.

Hi All .... I have to admit that I have been fortunately very busy with work. SO I am finally getting to check out this forum.
I used a Canon 40D and a Canon 100-400 lens for the posted photos. Santa was very kind to me and I was able to add a Canon Mark III camera and a Canon 500mm f4L IS lens. So now I will be able to post crumby images from ...

Hey Gil,
Good for you, I'm sure that you will enjoy your Dslr. What did you get (brand, type, etc)? Not sure that I am any kind of expert, but I will help anyway possible.

Matt,
I know this reply is months late. Just wanted to say that I enjoyed your photos very much.
I typically don't have a lot of trouble separating the Goldfinches from the yellow warblers. The distinctive black wingbars on the goldies work for me ... the calls are very different as well.
I wouldn't worry much about the hawks taking your birds.

I've heard both pros and cons on leaving dryer lint for bird nesting, here's a quote from a good article on ''All About Birds.''
''What about dryer lint? Some people include this as suitable bird nesting material. Others recommend against it because it is porous and dries out poorly if it's rained on in the nest. Still others warn that wet ...

Here are a few of my ''Backyard Birds'' taken over the past few months. I have several feeders and nest boxes in our yard and we are working to create a bird friendly; tree, shrub and flower element as well. Plans are to build several more nest boxes and feeders this winter.

Hi All,
I just found this forum and have enjoyed the posts that I have read. Great idea Gil, with a ton of potential! I am an avid birder (both backyard and in ''wild'' areas) My thing is photography more than just spotting.
