    Sunflower seed costs

Black-oil sunflower seed around here has almost doubled in cost  in the last couple of years. It went from $16 a few years back to over $29 for over a year. I was wondering what 50 pounds cost in y'all's neck-of-the-woods. I detest mixed seed, as it seems that the birds around here pick out the sunflower seeds, and leave the unidentified round stuff to mold. It seems that even goldfinches like black-oil sunflower seeds as well as niger thistle. I feed about two 5 pound coffee cans a day, so 50 lb doesn't seem to last very long.

I pay $25 for a 50 lb bag at a local feed store for black oil.
    It's $23 for a 40lb bag at lowes here.

    Dan,

I am seeing the same prices as you are, about $29.00 for 50#s of good BOSS. I gave up on feeding the mixed seed and my House Sparrow problem went away! I feed BOSS and thistle, and always have a couple of home made suet blocks out. Of course the Bluebirds get the live mealworms.
