I live in Rochester NY and have a great yard for watching birds.   I am interested in learning more about how to attract birds to my yard.  I have always loved birds and have a Parrotlet who lives in my house and owns me and my husband.

    That would be great!

I am really excited about setting up some feeding stations so we can watch the birds.

    Hey hey hey, watch it.

This mid-sized noisy white thing happens to have a name. And don't act all like bad-ass about it. You like her, so don't pretend like you don't.

Hi Rauncie, Welcome to the board.

Is that a yellow-mutation male that you have?

Can't quite see in the photo, but it sure is a cutie! I love those little guys. Size doesn't matter as far as THEY are concerned.

    :o)

    Re: New member

So what kind of bird do you have and what is its name?  Any pictures?

He is a American Yellow Pacific Parrotlet.  He has some blue on his wings and tail.  He is a pretty boy and a big clown.

I have a Citron-crested Cockatoo, Shalom. She just turned 7 yesterday, and she is my baby.

How old is your baby? What's the little tyke's name?

Did you get him from Paul's Birds Unlimited?

    Re: New member

She is beautiful!  Yes I got my Cyrano from Paul.  He is the greatest.  We love going to the store but always end up spending tons of money...Cyrano is totally spoiled.  We are actually thinking about getting another bird to add to our little family and have been doing alot of research.  It would be in its own cage of course but we want a bird that is not going to try beat up my tiny boy.   It would be nice for them to have some play time together.  He seems lonely lately.

He is only 7 months old and his name is Cyrano.

    Re: New member

Awww ... he is just a baby!

I love Paul too. I used to visit him often to look and play with the babies when I was in Rochester. And I always had to leave with a bag of goodies, so I had to cut the visitations if not I would have gone broke! He has very nice birds.

I am partial to the conures myself. I had a Green-cheeked conure but he passed away prematurely due to a micro-bacterial infection that took over too fast. And I would eventually like to have another one some day.

They are GREAT little guys, and just So Much Fun! I almost got a pineapple mutation GCC from Paul, but the husband said 'NO'  Sad [:(] 'cos we were moving to Cali with a bird, cat and fish already. Pfft.

Good luck with your search though! How fun!

    Re: New member

I did not put it up last night.  I had a full moon to go to and a final exam.

I am hoping to get it up tonight.

don't be discouraged if you do see anything right away.  it could take as long as a week for birds to 'find" it.

    Re: New member

I havent seen any birds yet.

My daughter is home today and I will tell her to keep a eye out and see if she sees anything.  Do you think it would help to set up a bird bath nearby.

Also...we have lots of mosquitos..would that keep the birds away?

    Re: New member

a bird bath is always a good idea.  i've heard that the trick is to get a bubbler or mini fountain.  the sound of runnign water attracts the birds in addition to just the visual cue.

i don't think mosquitoes would deter birds.  in fact, it might serve as a source of protein for some.
